During Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, giving charity holds immense significance and promises great rewards. Generosity and philanthropy are core values in Islam, exemplified by Zakat being one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) emphasized the importance of charity, stating, “The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.” (Al-Tirmidhi)
Numerous Hadiths underscore the virtues of charity:
Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said, “Protect yourself from hellfire even by giving a piece of date as charity.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
He also stated, “Charity does not in any way decrease wealth. The servant who forgives, Allah adds to his respect; and the one who shows humility, Allah elevates him in the estimation of the people.” (Muslim)
Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) encouraged prompt charity, saying, “Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.” (Al-Tirmidhi)
Special nights during Ramadan, like Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Power), carry even greater rewards. Falling on one of the last 10 odd nights of Ramadan, donating on these nights ensures one reaps the blessings of this auspicious occasion.
Allah (SWT) emphasizes the significance of Laylatul Qadr in the Qur’an, stating, “The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.” (Qur’an, 97:3)
